Two weeks ago, in New York City with B Wardlaw and Susan Milner Wardlaw the conversation turned to Ed and we shared warm rememberances of time spent with Ed. I think of him often and wish he was still here. I would have loved to hear his take on the last election and what he thought this might mean for our funny world. Certain settings and certain people are sure to bring up his memory, the crinkle in his eyes and his intense interest in people and ideas. On election eve I wandered over to the front of the White House - it is all spiffy and clean up - no more of Connie's sign boards and no more encampments of wayward individuals. The outpouring of students from GW that you saw on the TV the next day were unaccustomed to being in the streets. They didn't really have a message, they were just happy about the outcome of the election - and they wanted to wish Bush godspeed. I was missing Ed and his brand of thoughtful inclusive subversiveness
