I just bought Ed's book "The Design of Discord". My ex husband used to talk about Ed when he took his class many years ago. I recall him referring to Ed's book. I just now am reading this book with fascination. I knew Ed indirectly. I have always felt a great deal of admiration and respect for Ed. Whenever I met Ed either jogging ( more like crawling) in the park or ar Wilson Farms or sometimes at his house, he always enquired about "Speed" (my ex) or myself with such a genuine interest that marked him, in my book, as one of those people I always wished I would get to know more. I'm back at the University of Buffalo now after having retired from teaching after 32 years in the Buffalo Public Schools.
I think about Ed a lot. I've been meaning to write a message after he died but somehow never got around to it. Whatever I had to say about Ed, someone had already said much more eloquently than I could have.
I wish you were around Ed. I have so much to say to you about the nature of work. I finished my job but not my work. I am just beginning to understand the importance of continuing my work. You are an inspiration to me. A model of what I wish to become.
