Mr. Walker,
We haven't met, but Ed spoke of you often. I am Harold and Jane LaFont's grandson, and during my teenage years I visited Ed annually in Buffalo. Your memories mirror the recollections that Ed shared with me of those immediately post-war UT years, a UT that slightly predated the Willie Morris years and which is long gone, probably irretrievable. Scholz's is still serving beer, but with the exception of the occasional oompah band, it's a dreary place reserved for Democrat nostalgia.
My grandfather Harold is still living in Plainview and purports to continue practicing law, making him the oldest practicing lawyer in Texas. With the exception of a slower gait, he looks exactly the same as he did twenty-five years ago. Jane died a couple of years ago, a casualty of breast cancer.
You know, my wife and I are moving to DC this summer. Perhaps we can get together. I'll hang onto your email address.
Yours,
William Huie
