Visiting Ed & Karen's house on Jewitt ave was a bout the grandest thing
a teenage kid could do in Buffalo. I met Ed when I was in highschool
through Rachel Williams (his step daughter), and every time I stepped
through that back fooyer into their house it was like walking into a
story book. Too young to drink, not much of an athlete, head generally
in the clouds, there was no better place on earth than to be at Ed &
Karen's house for one their famous Saturday night feasts. What I remember
so vividly about Ed was how seriously he took me, at a time in life
when almost no adults would. Not that we always talked about serious
matters, though surely we did, but that he treated me with respect, the
way he would any other of his friends. I loved Ed's imagnination and
his child like curiosity at all the wonders that life held. That spirit
stays with me. I'm also so glad that I have Rachel to remember all of this
with. (Rachel, if you read this drop me an e-mail.) And to Ed, much love.
