Ed Powell's death makes me very sad. He lived an inspirational life. He was filled with such positive energy and possessed such affective qualities that it was impossible not to have some of his goodwill and quest for good brush off on you. For me, he represented a freedom of thought, a happiness, and a way of life that together are so rare that I consider myself lucky to have crossed paths with him. I knew him through my many trips to visit Rebekah from down the block. He always seemed to me the wise man around the fire. A man who was well-read but by no means erudite and a man who was distinguished by his actions and will to change yet always felt down to earth. He treated high school me with a degree of respect and humanity that erased any age or ideological differences. He was always willing to give some of his words and time, a kind man indeed. I always looked forward to a friendly hello and chat when I saw him pedalling my way on his slow-and-steady bicycle. He was a man who gave me more than he knew. I will miss you Ed.
