Sincerely, John Marciano, Social-Historical Foundations of Education
I have just learned of Ed's death from a dear friend and former sociology
graduate student at SUNYB in the 1960s. We have lost a soulmate in the cause
of peace and justice. I was a graduate student at SUNYB (1963-69) and met Ed
through our mutual efforts against the vietnam war. We attended many
meetings, and walked many miles together over those years before i left; and
spent countless evenings together discussing the great issues of the time. It
was an honor to have shared so many fine moments with such a gentle and sweet
man. I still have a paper he wrote for the first Vietnam War teach-in at
Buffalo, in March, 1965, in which he brilliantly and eloquently took apart
all the lies holding up the government's war there. His insights on what
would unfold were incredibly prophetic. If only more would have listened.
