I first met Dr. Powell in an awkward situation. I was late for my first class with him in Baldy (the Kiva)and of course, I had tried to sneek in the back. But Dr. Powell wouldn't let that happen. He stopped the enitre class to let me know that I was indeed late and that there was a great seat right down front. I will never forget that day. I couldn't believe it! I thought I would leave, but then Ed started talking and made class very interesting. He talked of assignments in a different way, not the traditional way. He encourage us to write and write some more. He was kind enough to let me do my independant study under him and boy did I learn a lot! I will never forget meeting with Ed. He would always want to get away from the classroom and be where the people were in the Union. So, we would often meet to discuss the paper there where we would run in to Michael. Things would really get interesting then. But, I will never forget Dr. Powell or the ways that he had striven to inspire me to write and to talk about my experiences. He encourage me to speak out about problems on campus...and to work hard on these issues. I remember telling new students this year to make sure they take one class with Ed. I said, you must sign up for one of his classes, he is the best! That is the way I will remember him. Just a little fiesty about getting the work done...and always willing to listen to your trials and tribulations. He trully inspired me to continue to stand up for what I believe is right and how to get things done through the right channel. Thanks Ed...you will be missed.
I will never forget always seeing him walking or
riding his bike. As of late I had seen him peddaling down Elmwood and as always,
there I was beeping my horn saying there goes my professor...Dr. Powell.
