As one of Steve Powell's many friends, I found sanctuary in 124 Jewett Parkway at a time when my life was in total chaos (no family, no job and no direction in life), rather than being judgemental, Ed, Steve and I would have lengthy conversations on what we would accomplish by our "Punk rock" music, stupid haircuts and self-destructive behavior. We were argry young men looking for meaning and Ed provided Compassion, tolerence and guidence. Ed would get us to question our own motives. He was a teacher in the most pure sense of the word. Without Ed and Steve my life could have had tragic consequences. From the amount of messages posted Ed has touched many lives. Ed was a true intellectual in the fact that he could communicate with all people. When you sat down with Ed and talked there was never a uncomfortable start to conversation. He would get you to talk about yourself. Ed would listen and truly get to know you and provided questions that enhanced the conversation. I agree with the statement refering Ed as a Buddha to Nirvana. One can only dream of changing so many lives in their lifetime. To obtain and share the knowledge that Ed had, will have infinite value to me and the generations after me. I know that he is proud both of Jim and Steve and their families. Both whom have grown to be to great men. I know he is proud of his grandsons. I know he is proud of all the great response to his passing. A Teacher of life, I can say that Ed's passing has made me come to the realization that our generation is no longer the next generation, we are the current generation. We are the teachers, the leaders and the people that our childern look to for guidence. It is time that we polish the jewels of knowledge that Ed has set inside of us and pass them on to others. I can say that Ed has inspired me in my own artistic pursuits. To quote Ed from Acknowlegments - The Design of Discord, Studies of Anomie- "I am a part of all those who have touched my life". I can also proudly say that I am greatful that Elwin H. Powell has touched my life and is a part of me. The Cycle is Complete. Chief A.K.A William Owen Logan
Athough, he had what seemed to be infinite Intellect, he never made you feel like you were below him, he played on your field.
