Jim I think I met you a long time ago, actually it was March of 1995 at your birthday party. I worked for THL with your wife Debra. I was in from Atlanta and somehow got invited. First let me say that I have been trying to track down Ed Powell for a few years now with no success. Maybe I should have made a better effort. And now Ed is gone and I feel really bad. I just now today found this website. Ok, my story is simple. I spoke to ED for about 3 or 4 hours that night at your house. We spoke of knowledge and intelligence. He seemed to be happy with my part of the conversation and I was certainly excited to talk to him. We mainly spoke of philosophy, while we drank a few beers. It was a great night and that is the reason I am sending this email. Some of the things from that night have touched my life. I remember him telling me about how he was walking in the park one day and listening with his walkman. NPR was playing a repeat of Albert Einstein’s 1948 speech at Harvard. Your father told me the definition of intelligence from Albert Einstein’s point of view. “ The definition of intelligence is the ability to learn from experience” One of great regrets in life is never contacting ED after that night. He gave me his contact information when I was leaving. I put this info somewhere I would never lose it, and haven’t seen it since! Thank you “ The farmer from Ohio “ Stan Ballman
